I have many

….what are my GOATS in Crossfit?!

  1. Heavy Jerk… hell jerk in general!

  2. Heavy Snatch

  3. Heavy Back Squat

  4. Heavy Dead Lift

  5. Pistols are poor, I can do them but they are slowwwww.

  6. Strict HSPU/ Ring HSPU

  7. Prowler pushes

  8. oh and the biggest one, flexibility!!

this is just to name a few, I know it all begins with my flexibility.  I have never taken the time stretch…. until now.  I’m no yogi, but I am taking the time before workouts after workouts, on days I am not working out to mobilize for a bit.  So next time you see me ask me how my GOATS are!

2008 Games getting my ass handed to me on the last wod….

I look at this pic often to gain motivation.  I do not like to DNF in anything.  When this workout popped up, I had never attempted to put 155# over my head, and to top it off I had to do it 30x w/ a 15min cap!!  I ended up with 28 reps, with 4 no reps (no lockout)…. I was crushed!  This workout left such a sour taste in my mouth that I redid it 6weeks after the games and finished it under 8minutes (roughly 5minutes now)… Was once a GOAT is no longer, time to kill the rest of the GOATS!

The Fittest Games

13 Dec

….time to commit!  I half-ass committed to ACO which in doing so I missed out on registering for the event!  Crossfit comps are not what they use to be…. the Sport of Crossfit is growing at a rapid pace, and if you snooze you lose.  With that being said, The Fittest Games use to be my fortay…. I won the first 2 years, and came in second the third year, but I haven’t competed since.  I know it’s not going to be a walk in the park, and the likelyhood of me finishing in the top 10 is a LONG SHOT!.  But if you know me, you know that I am always up for a challenge so let’s see what happens!

The survival of the fittest is the ageless law of nature, but the fittest are rarely the strong. The fittest are those endowed with the qualifications for adaptation, the ability to accept the inevitable and conform to the unavoidable, to harmonize with existing or changing conditions.

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”

So, it’ been a few days since I completed the LT100 and to be honest with you I’m not exactly sure where I should start so bare with me…..  The idea to run Leadville actually was birthed a few years ago.  My buddy Don Ward basically threw it out one day when he heard I wanted to do an ultra.  And being the crazy guy that I am, i said hellsyeah let’s do it!  Well that turned out to be all talk… nothing happened that year, until I came across the book Born to Run by Christopher McDougall (Crossfit Central had a book signing for him).  And in that book they talk about the Leadville run and how unbelievably hard it is… well crazy Kris was like, damn I have to do it now!  At the time I was reading Born to Run, I wasn’t running at all, other then what was in the workouts we were doing… but nothing extra.  Before I started doing crossfit, I use to run 15-20miles a week, but my knees and hips would start hurting and I would take a few weeks off, let them heal, and then go right back to running!  Quite the vicious cycle I was putting myself through.  But then I started crossfitting and stopped all the running at town lake I was doing…. my knees never felt better, my hips felt great… then I read BTR, and I was like you know what I love to run, lets see if I can do this ultra…   So last year I decided to do a 50 miler first, in prep for LT100, in what I called the The Town Lake 52miler….

Fittest Games

15 Feb

…..once upon a time.

2011 Crossfit Central Fittest Games are in the books.  Athletes traveled from all of the United States this year, a far cry from the year the above pic was taken.  If my memory serves me correct, the farthest distance a competitor traveled back in 2007 was San Antonio!  Anyhow mad props to all the athletes who competed this year…. Game ON!

the final heat of the day

beast mode!

This past weekend up in Dallas Texas, Crossfit Dallas Central hosted the 2nd Annual All Cities Open.  A one day event packed with 4 workouts as well as a “Fran Off”.  I was just a spectator for this… this time!  It has been 6 weeks since my run and I have started to amp up the intensity of my workouts, because a little birdie told me something is coming up in February!  Back to the ACO, I want to acknowledge all the competitors who competed, especially the crew from Crossfit Central and Crossfit Point Break…  Big Mike, mad potential son!!  The one I am proud of most is my wife….. you brought the fun back to working out, and look what happens when you do!  A 2:59 Fran time, and 3rd place overall!!!  Your untouchable when you are having fun, remember that!

Workout Recap:  In the last few weeks I have been taking main site wods and modifying them, all in all I feel good about my progress.  I hit a pr the other day on Snatch 150#, which is a full snatch.  And considering I haven’t attempted that weight in 4 months I am pleased.  I did 165# at Regionals this year, but it was more of a power/ muscle press.. very ugly but hell it counted.  MY 150# would have counted as a legit lift in an OLY comp., no press out.  Word SON!!! Just thinking about competing again gets me lit!  Stay tuned

A theme song for many….

my roots run deep as does my soul

There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature, or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art, and knowledge.

Friedrich Nietzsche

the following quote by Nietzsche resonates in me…  when I stop trying to improve myself I screw up, and it feels like I take a step back in my journey.  This life we are living is made up of moments.  Not days, weeks, years… MOMENTS!  Live in the moment, be aware of the moment, enjoy the moment, learn in the moment, it’s as simple as that.

Active Recovery of your choice, as well as take the time to read something positive for at least an hour.

I will be attending the Crossfit Football Certification at Crossfit Central this weekend.  I’m looking forward to all the new tools I will learn and get to pass on to you guys via the OPERA.  Enjoy your weekend and anticipate some new movements come Monday.  Peace.

Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to cut all sources of retreat. Only by doing so can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a burning desire to win – essential to success.
